of "The Seasons Change & So Do I"
This series of dolls came out of a request for an
“October” doll design. As with many things, I settled in
to design this project, but never seemed to come up with
anything that I liked. After several attempts, I set the
project aside for a bit. When I went back to it, I not
only had my design for an October gal, but ideas for seven
of her sisters. And all within an afternoon. The series
has grown and expanded beyond the original concept to one
for every month with a few extra friends as well.
The girls are all 24” in height…and slim (as I
often wish I were). They're simple in body design with
faces that are traced from the pattern with fine marker
pens and crayons. (Very easy to do.) They have
painted legs (but you can also use printed fabric) and
lots of fun accessories. Part of each design incorporates
a star or two, one of my favorite things. The directions
have lots of easy sewing tips and diagrams to make the
projects fun. Instruction for all the special accessories
are included as well. I hope you find a special friend in
this collection…so now, let’s meet the girls.
A note from Cloth Doll
Supply:
Besides a full color cover
of the Doll, these wonderful patterns are 7-9 pages of
instructions and descriptive illustrations, plus 4-6
size 11" x 17" pages for doll pattern and
clothing/accessories. Worth every dollar you pay for them!

Katrina - January
January is Katrina’s favorite month because she loves the
snow…and especially Snowflake, her very own snowman. Her skirt
has embroidered snowflakes with beaded ends. Her blouse has a
snowman face stitched to the front. A rusty star and snowflake
dangle from her stocking cap and her wool coat has nice deep
pockets. A long flannel scarf is wired to “blow” in the wind.
Even her mittens have snowflakes on them. To top off her
outfit is a shoulder bag shaped like…what else…a snowman face.
He sports a stuffed carrot nose as a clasp. Snowflake is 8”
tall with twig arms and miss-matched buttons marching down his
front. He holds a 1 ½” rusty star to remind us to always reach
for them. With Snowflake in her arms, Katrina is ready for a
day in the crisp
winter air.

Gillie
- March
Polly loves
two things
– Spring and her chicks; Tweet, Buttercup, and Jellybean.
April can be a
tricky month, so Polly wears a short-sleeved,
scallop-skirted dress over a long sleeved one. Her apron has
a tulip shaped pocket and her chicks favorite song
embroidered on the front (Peep, Peep!) On her head is a
wreath made of a spring branch and adorned with ribbons. She
carries her chicks in a tub. (They really are so wiggley,
you know.) And of course she has a bag of chick feed. Give
her a basket with painted eggs and rusty stars and just
watch the sun break out in her great big smile.

Gabriella - May
Gabriella
can't wait for May when she can finally plant the seeds from the
catalogs she’s been pouring over all winter. She wears a
long-sleeved, scallop-hemmed blouse over a plaid skirt. To protect
her clothes in the potting shed, she adds an apron with large
flower-topped pockets and her favorite word
–
flowers – embroidered near the bottom. To keep the sun off
her face, she adds a straw hat topped with ribbons, fabric roses,
and stars. She has a grapevine wreath to decorate the shed door.
Her clay pots have stars stenciled on them. In her pockets are all
those seed packets she collected…now, where did she put that
trowel? (The pattern includes a sheet of vintage seed packet
pictures for making a pocketful of seeds for Gabby to plant.)

Libby
- July
Born on the Fourth of July, Libby is
truly a patriotic gal. She wears a long red dress with sleeves
that flare out at the wrist and are faced with a navy star-printed
fabric. Her jumper is a tan cotton with an angled hem. The word
“freedom” is stitched with navy floss down the front. Over her
shoulder she wears a sash of flag-printed, wired ribbon. On her
head is a navy, five-pointed fabric crown. In one hand she holds
high her wire-trimmed torch. In the other Libby carries an
American flag decked with a rusty-wired star. Over that arm she
also carries an even larger star. Her smile is definitely red
white and blue…so, let the fireworks begin!

Zoe
- August
August is Zoe’s favorite month. She gets to spend it on the rocky
coast of Maine. Just a short distance from her house is a little
cove where Zoe loves to paint and sketch the ever changing sea and
sky. She wears a soft blue skirt topped with a middy blouse and of
course, a star-spangled tie. To keep the sun off her face (she
freckles sooo easily) is a white straw hat with blue and white
ribbons, flowers, and stars. Under one arm Zoe carries her sketch
pad. Over the other is her plaid blanket and her sketch box.
Inside her box are all the things an artist needs: tubes of paint,
colored pencils, brushes, a palette and even a little water jar.
Most days, don't expect to see Zoe till suppertime. (Included in
the pattern is directions for all the art supplies and a sheet of
small labels for the tubes of paint.)

Raven - September
Raven loves the heat of Indian Summer…and when it gets too hot,
she can always find shade under her favorite spot in the garden –
the sunflower patch. She and her pet crow Fiddlesticks can often
be found there on a sunny afternoon. Raven wears a long-sleeved
blouse with contrasting trim under a jumper that sports a large
sunflower in the lower corner. Embroidered across the front of the
jumper is her favorite phrase “as the crow flies.” Little crows
perch on the letters. She wears a matching headband with a large
sunflower on the side and two rusty stars floating on stems over
it. Fiddlesticks loves the seeds, so Raven often carries a couple
of sunflowers on long stems…just in case he gets hungry. He is 7”
long and wears a rusty star and bell on a wire around his neck.
(Such a sporty guy!) Raven loves stars too, and has a couple
mounted on twigs that she carries along with her sunflowers. Caw,
Fiddlesticks looks hungry again!

Willow - October
This is
the gal who started it all. She’s a sweet witch who’s a little on
the shy side. Her long sleeved, slightly high-waisted dress is a
deep bittersweet orange color with coordinating strips of fabric
on the sleeves and at the neck. But the really special surprise is
the row of little black cats marching around the hem. They look
like little mini versions of Licorice, Willow’s best friend. In
between each kitty is an embroidered star. The same star is also
stitched to her bodice to make the perfect accent. She has a very
tall hat that comes to a swirly point. On the tip is a large gold
fabric star. In her arms she carries a large stuffed
Jack-o-lantern with a happy smile. Hanging from her arm is a
smaller pumpkin and a large star. Wherever Willow is, Licorice the
cat always follows. He’s 8” tall from paw to tail and has a star
and bell around his neck. His favorite thing is to curl up in
Willow’s lap while she reads. Watch out pumpkin…Licorice needs a
nap!

Hannah - November
When the
November winds begin to blow the leaves off the trees, you will
find Hannah in the pumpkin patch, searching for just the right
pumpkins for the Thanksgiving feast. She’s dressed in a
traditional long-sleeved dress with white cuffs and a square
collar. Her cape however, is more than just a plain wool cloak.
Hannah loves needlework and the design of leaves and berries that
flows down the front of the cape shows off that love (and yours).
In her hands she carries a basket with fabric pumpkins from the
field and berries she’s picked to decorate the table. (I used
rosehips) Her head is covered with the traditional white cap and
her cheeks are rosy from her walk in the field. She wishes peace
and plenty to all.

Clarissa The Red Hat Lady
Clarissa
and her friends are red hat ladies. She’s ready for fun any time
of the year. She loves to get together with her friends for tea,
lunch, shopping, or any of the other fun trips the girls can come
up with. Today it’s lunch at a cozy little tea room and then off
to poke in the shops nearby. She wears a wonderful red skirt made
from three coordinating fabrics. Her purple print blouse comes to
a slight point in the front and has lace at the collar and a red
silk rose at the neck. Over that she wears a plum wool coat with
coordinating cuffs and collar. The front edges are decorated penny
rug style with contrasting red, purple, and lavender leaves,
hearts, and flowers…and lots of embroidery. Her tote bag is very
roomy with pockets on the front and a nice long strap. Inside is a
small wool change purse. Clarissa is ready to shop. But the best
thing is her hat. It’s red straw and decorated with red and purple
ribbons, silk flowers, and…of course…stars. To top it off is the
one thing every red hat must have – a purple feather. C’mon
Clarissa, can’t let the tea get cold. The ladies are waiting!
