A
unique dragon in flight, to be enjoyed as a mobile, by Barbara
Graff of Kith & Kin Originals. Variety: Speckled Sea Dragon
not to be confused with the Appalachian Tree Dragon. Though
30" from nose to tail, he requires 18 square inches of
air space to hang free. Featured are wired bat-like wings and
wired claws on wings and feet. He carries a banner saying "Save
the Dragons!". This dragon is unsuitable as a toy, but
is adorable hanging in a child's room. Suggestions: create him

Angel Challenge by Cloth Doll Supply and Barbara Graff
Our thanks go out to the
doll makers who entered the Angel Challenge. Barbara Graff
was delighted to see the Angels as they were made up for
this challenge.
Due to being away over the long holiday and having email
problems, Barbara has not been able to send me her
commentary on the challenge entries or to make them
available on the web site yet. She has "something
wonderful" to say about each of the entries and we will
be posting this at a later date.
The winner of $150.00 worth of Supplies from Cloth Doll
Supply for this Angel Challenge is Laura Lunsford. She sent
in 'Angel In Pink', whose face is painted with acrylics .
Congratulations!
After discussing the reasons of why Barbara chose 'Angel
In Pink' as the winning entry, (and hearing the wonderful
things she had to say about the others as well)
we have decided to send a $50 Cloth Doll Supply Gift Bag
to
both Amanda Lee
and Sandy Romero
|

Amanda Lee |
for their wonderful Angel Entries too! |

"First
Prize"
By Nancy Clark of Wyoming
"Juruthra Rachel"
by Jo Ellen Dismukes of Lacey Jane Primitives

An Izannah angel created from a B. Graf Pattern of Kith &
Kin
Juruthra is made from Cloth Doll Supply hand dyed muslin
(flesh), her hair with bun is painted as are her shoes. I
did her face using watercolors by Prismacolor. Her dress is
a civil war print and the pantaloons are made from vintage
gauze. Finally, her wings are made of Angelina Fibers
(Enchanted Forest Flash) sewn between pieces of vintage
petticoat netting.
A note from Barbara about the Angel Challenge Dolls:
I enjoyed seeing all the little angels created from my
pattern, and I'd like to thank you for the opportunity.
I would like to say that judging a
contest from photographs is very difficult. You
cannot see-touch-feel the dolls. And as soon as you want
to take a closer look and see the craftsmanship (clipped
curves...hanging threads...etc.) it can't be done.
By it's nature, judging from photos is "Which is the best
doll? Guess!"
Another problem is the bias of the Judge...me. I
designed the angel. It's size and gesture were made to
fit my own needs and desires. Good luck trying to
recreate what you think I had in mind!
The winner was Laura Lunsford with her "Angel in
Pink". I loved the bright, happy face painted with
acrylics (and I appreciate the difficulty in doing so).
The colors sing. She's energetic, happy, fun to be
around. I love the satin ribbon on the feet...the sparkle
on the wings. Well done!
I also loved Amanda Lee's angel. I loved the mix and
use of different fabrics. The expression holds
a sincerity and seriousness that gives me comfort. I hope
she's keeping me in her prayers.
Sandy Romero's angels touched me as they made strong
yet simple statements. One seems aged by pain, love, and
experience as she cradles the twin towers in her arms.
Another doll...created to commemorate a christening,. I
loved the appropriate and perfect use of the pattern.
Thank you friends for letting me share my pattern
with you!
Hugs, Barbara Graff
