"You-Do Make-do" Kit

You will have everything you need to use to turn little things of sentiment or items you have around the house to make into a pinkeep/make-do. There is enough supplies in the kit to make 6, maybe more depending on size. Three Examples of one I did are shown below.
Perhaps a baby shoe, or a vintage bean jar that's been in the family...a wooden box...an old canning jar cover ...things like that.
These make wonderful gifts or to sell at your craft fairs.

3 - 6" x 6" plastic bags of for stuffing's, one with wool, one with cotton, and the last with our heirloom quality sawdust. It's fun to try all three and there's plenty enough to make several more that the 3 examples shown.

Mica Flakes/Snow

Mica is a mineral that comes in a variety of colors and can be easily separated into thin transparent sheets. Processed into high quality white mica into small flakes much like the "Vintage Mica Snow" of the early 1900's. In addition to being beautiful, it's non-toxic, tough, chemically inert, transparent and waterproof. It can also withstand temperatures of over 1100 degrees!

Picture above are Examples of Mica Flakes used on projects. Mica Flakes are used by Doll Makers, Costume Designers, Folk Art and Primitive Artists, doll house builders, Hang Tag Artists, and many more!

Many ways to use Mica Flakes!

For a SOLID look:
Use a mixture of clear white glue and water (enough to make the glue easy to paint with). Taking an old paint brush paint the area you wish to cover and then roll the item in the mica. Use your fingers to push the mica firmly into the glue. As it dries continue to smooth the flakes flat.

For a FINE MICA FLAKE or POWDER: Use a blender or food processor and make it just the size you want.

For a BRIGHT SNOW effect: Use white paint as the glue. Then roll the object in the mica flakes or sprinkle the mica onto the object. Great for pinecones.

For a MICA SHIMMER: Use a strainer to shake only the tiny flakes and powder onto your wet (glued, sprayed or painted) item.

BriWax - Golden Oak
This one pound tin will last you 30-50 dolls depending on doll size. The secret's in the blend. Briwax is a blend of soft beeswax and an imported, hard, waxy emollient from the carnauba palm in South AmericaWax compound. Primitive Doll Makers use this by rubbing on dolls/fabric with a cloth. It can be applied to painted fabric and plain fabric. It can be used as an antique or just to darken the fabric for that primmed out grungey look. It can make painted cloth look like leather when buffed. Results are an aged look on primitive and vintage cloth dolls that your gonna love! Also comes in Dark Oak!

The Dark Oak Bri-wax on used on a plain muslin doll gives an effect that is wonderful. Without any sanding, cinnamon or distressing it gives a wonderful black doll with a very aged look.

Walnut Crystals

We've added a tips sheet and our new zippered bag has a bonus 1/2 ounce more of Walnut Crystals. The fabulous walnut ink crystals are another great way to use on aging/antiquing your primitive dolls! Walnut ink crystals are derived from the walnut shells and is a very versatile, water soluble colorant. By purchasing the walnut crystals and mixing it on your own (you just need warm water for this), you can make the ink any hue of brown that you want. You can get more dramatic effects with a more concentrated (darker) solution of the crystals.

GROUND CINNAMON
For "Primming & Scenting " your Dolls and Crafts! Many of the aging/staining techniques in the patterns we sell call for rubbing ground cinnamon into the fabric. We have been able to buy in bulk from a New England Spice Shop and can now offer it to you at a great price too!

Yes, these are toe rings! Doll makers use these for tiny doll bracelets and doll earrings too. Set of six, approximately 1/2" wide with and open end that can be pinched smaller or opens wider.

Antique Skeleton Key

Picture is of various Antique Skeleton Keys, some have surface rust, others not, but all are ORIGINAL. Wonderful to use with your dolls and make-do's. We cannot give you an actual picture of which one you will receive as supplies vary.

Vintage Chair Springs

These come from a vintage chair and are lightweight compared to bedsprings. You can see in the first picture how the springs were hand tied and sewn together on this rare old find! Someone was a pack rat (like me) to have saved these.

I sprayed the springs with a textured rust colored paint. Just imagine what you can do with these! They stand about 5" and can easily be pulled to be taller. Supplies are limited!
